The Next Level of Financial Literacy and Personal Finance Research
In the upcoming Connecting to Reimagine: Money & COVID-19 webinar, we will discuss how research is the first step for creating effective solutions. Insights from leaders in the private and public sectors will share the ways in which financial literacy and personal finance research has shaped decisions. Our participants will also introduce the next bold move in the field: the launch of a new Financial Literacy and Personal Finance Research Network (aka the G53 Network). The G53 Network is a new initiative dedicated to connecting researchers globally and promoting rigorous research around financial literacy and personal finance. We will learn more about it and its ambitious agenda.

Unbiased, quality research can drive public policy and help businesses make better decisions. We know, from research, that financial illiteracy has consequences. Existing findings have also helped to establish a strong baseline against which changes in financial knowledge, behaviors, outcomes, and attitudes can be compared. Research findings have improved our understanding of how to increase financial literacy and to close gaps among demographic groups. During this webinar, we will explore new research priorities for the field as well as the ways in which the private sector and policy makers have been using (and can continue to use) this research to develop strategies, programs, and policies.

In “The Next Level of Financial Literacy and Personal Finance Research” webinar, Professor Elsa Fornero, GFLEC Advisory Council Member and Former Italian Minister of Labour, Social Policies and Equal Opportunities, will lead the discussion with Professor Panu Kalmi, Professor of Economics, University of Vaasa (Finland); Professor Annamaria Lusardi, Founder and Academic Director, GFLEC, and University Professor, the George Washington University; Boris Marte, CEO of ERSTE Foundation (Austria); and Judith Robertson, Commissioner, Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC).
